At B&B Decorative Concrete, we build our patios, driveways, and pool decks to last. However, like any premium feature of your home, decorative stamped concrete requires a little routine care to maintain its structural integrity and vibrant colors.

Fortunately, maintaining stamped concrete is simple and straightforward. By following a few basic maintenance steps, you can keep your custom concrete looking brand new for decades.

Applying a high-quality sealer is the most critical step in preserving decorative concrete. We apply a commercial-grade sealer to every finished project, which acts as a protective shield for your surface.Here is why sealing your concrete is so important:

• Color Protection: UV-resistant sealers act like sunscreen for your concrete, preventing those rich integral and accent colors from fading in the sun.
• Stain Resistance: A good seal blocks oil, grease, dirt, and wet leaves from penetrating the porous concrete surface, making spills easy to wipe away.
• Weather & Moisture Defense: Sealing prevents water from seeping into the concrete. This is especially important in cold climates, where trapped moisture can freeze, expand, and cause surface cracking or spalling.
• Enhanced Appearance: Sealers bring out the depth of the concrete’s colors and provide a beautiful, finished sheen—ranging from matte to high-gloss.

To keep your surface fully protected, we generally recommend resealing your stamped concrete every 2 to 3 years. A good rule of thumb: if you notice the concrete has lost its sheen, or if water is no longer beading up on the surface, it is time for a fresh coat of sealer. 

In between sealing, everyday maintenance is a breeze. Keep your decorative concrete in top shape with these easy habits:

• Sweep Regularly: Keep the surface free of dirt, debris, and dry leaves to prevent organic staining.
• Wash with Mild Soap: For deeper cleaning, use a garden hose, a push broom, and a mild, non-abrasive detergent (like dish soap). Avoid harsh chemicals or heavy-duty pressure washing, which can strip the sealer.
• Avoid De-Icing Salts: During the winter, avoid using rock salt or chemical de-icers, as these can severely damage the concrete surface. Use plain sand for traction instead.
